Day 6: Sol Degrieck claims clearcut victory in Girl’s U18s, while Peter Gobisch and Yannik Kolb Gonzalez currently lead U18 & U15 Boy’s respectively

After another relatively slow start to the day, Day 6 of the 2025 Gran Canaria Gloria Windsurf World Cup soon burst into life around 11am as the next generation hit the water once again. Faced with gusty winds and variable waves the Youth’s still made the most of the conditions on offer to put on an entertaining display, while during the late afternoon the Master’s fleet also took to the water for the first time this week as their quarterfinals were completed.

Youth’s

Girl’s U18

Sol Degrieck (Severne / Severne Sails) claimed a comprehensive victory in the Girl’s U18 division as the young Belgian maestro won all three finals completed today. Degrieck impressed in the main draw – where she currently sits in third place – and her skills were clearly evident again today as she impressed both in the air and on the wave. The results between the rest of the girls – Emma Miron (F2), Frida Miron (F2), Lizzlotte Schilling Andrew (F2 / F2 Sails) and Natsuki Wakasa were a real mixed bag, but in the end, Schilling Andrew did just enough to secure second place on countback ahead of Miron E, who just missed out, but still completes the podium. Meanwhile, a tiebreak was also needed to split Miron F and Wakasa with Miron F eventually claiming fourth.

Boy’s U18

The U18 Boy’s final was a tight affair in the opening half of the heat, but as the final progressed Peter Gobisch (Duotone Windsurfing) slowly started to control the heat after dropping a 4.62 point wave ride before adding a solid forward loop to his scoresheet just before the buzzer to claim the top spot on the podium ahead of Bjørn Olesen (Severne / Severne Sails), Javi Escribano (Goya Windsurfing) and Antonio Silvestri.

Boy’s U15

The U15 Boy’s final saw a bright start start from Koa Fabbio (Naish / Naish Sails) as he quickly landed a forward loop and linked together the highest scoring wave of the heat. However, it wasn’t quite enough as Yannik Kolb Gonzalez came storming back with a perfect backloop to secure the top spot on the podium in the Single Elimination. Meanwhile, last year’s U13 champion, Elias Antolín (Duotone Windsurfing) currently sits in third followed by 12-year-old Anton Gobisch (Duotone Windsurfing), who demonstrated some stylish riding and spun through several forward loops.

Master’s

In the late afternoon the Master’s quarterfinals were completed and now the semifinals are set. The opening semifinal will see; Michael Viscovich (JP / NeilPryde) up against Valter Scotto (WeOne / Severne Sails), Vincent Beauvarlet (Goya Windsurfing) and John McLawrence (Severne Sails), while the second semifinal consists of; Matias Lanese (Tabou / Point-7), Alessandro Mazzetti (Quatro / Severne Sails), Lars Gobisch (Duotone Windsurfing) and reigning world champion, Mike Friedl (Quatro / Goya Windsurfing).

With a more promising forecast for Friday, the skippers’ meeting has been moved forward to 9:30am (GMT+1) tomorrow morning with a first possible start at 10am.
