Kai Lenny and most of the other top seeds secured their place into the Open Pro round of 16 today at Ho’okipa Beach Park on Maui’s north shore.
Day 2 of the Aloha Classic IWT Grand Final saw the first rounds of the Open Pro run in 15-20 knot winds with head to overhead waves. The worlds best riders made the conditions look impressive. Big tweaked airs, aerial 360 goiters, and slashing top turns were the signature moves from the best riders in the world.
The best rippers on the day included World Champion Marcilio Browne, Kai Lenny, Robby Swift, and 2 x Aloha Champion Bernd Roediger. Local boy Roediger was on a tear in his opening heat as he attacked every part of every wave and wowed the crowds across the beach. Another standout was youth rider Hayata Ishii from Japan who impressed the judges with fast flowing slashing hacks and a clean air game.
Tomorrow the Open Pro division will hit the water from 11am and charge through to a spectacular final around 1.30pm local Hawai’i time. Tune in to the livestream on the IWT Wave Tour YouTube page to see all the action.
