Barbados Waterman Festival Day 1

The International Windsurfing Tour was welcomed in Barbados to the Beach Culture World Tour in style! Brian Talma greeted IWT riders at registration giving each person a conch shell and a Talma original artwork Barbados Waterman T-shirt.

The morning started out with on shore winds and small waves. Riders who just arrived in town for the Barbados Waterman Festival were able to get out on the crystal clear water on 5+ meter sails. By now, all of our riders have had the opportunity to get on the water and acclimate to the conditions.

After a lunch provided by deAction Beach Shop, the IWT crew spent the afternoon exploring Sandy Beach- a quiet, white sand beach with a reef wave break ideal for jumping and down-the-line sailing. While waiting on the wind at Sandy Beach, which unfortunately did not build enough, a few went for a relaxing swim in the pristine Caribbean waters.

Riders gathered in the evening for registration at the deAction Beach Shop Bar with local rum, beer, and friends. Registration was followed by a full Caribbean dinner at London Bar located across the street from Brian’s deAction Beach Aprartments and shop. Everyone’s plates were filled to the brim with a delicious home-style meal of conch, codfish, chicken, mango, rice and slaw.

We’ll see what happens in the coming days with stronger wind and more waves in the forecast. The Barbados Waterman Festival looks ready for Action!
