Strong Winds and Tornadoes Call for Lay Day in Hatteras

Parts of North Carolina have been declared a local state of emergency after several tornadoes touched down on Sunday night. Gale force winds encouraged organizers to call for a lay day on Day 2 of the OBX-Wind.

Most riders took a day off the water, but the howling winds did not stop a few of the pros from hitting the challenging conditions. Boujmaa Guilloul headed out on the ocean side of Hatteras Island impressing the crowd with his dare devil stunts.

“It’s too windy!” That was the theme of the day. With dangerous wind conditions, the organizers wisely made the decision to postpone the long distance race until Wednesday.
Slalom race skippers meeting is scheduled for Tuesday at 10am in Ocean Air Sports.
